Excursions from Rome

Tivoli

the slopes of the Tiburtini Hills, with its sulphur springs and waterfalls, Tivoli is a favourite place to escape the heat of Roman summers.

Villa D’Este: Built in Renaissance time it’s considered not only one of the most beautiful gardens in Rome, but in the World. It’s extremely famous for its fountains.

Hadrian’s Villa: Built as a private summer retreat between AD 118 and 134. Hadrian’s Villa was a vast open air museum of the finest architecture in the world.

Eating: Dining in the spectacular garden overlooking an antique Roman temple! A dish of fresh pasta, creamy mozzarella and tomatoes, and Italian wine…with a view of the hills.

Ostia Antica

In ancient times Ostia was Rome’s main commercial port and whose Latin name “Ostium” means mouth of the river, reflecting its position along the Tiber.

Buried for centuries by sand, the city is remarkably well preserved.

While Ostia is a superb site to visit for those interested in how the Romans lived, there are also beautiful beaches to be enjoyed along with seaside locales for lunch or dinner.

Castelli Romani

A 30 minute drive from Rome up to a small medieval village, the summer residence of the Pope called Castel Gandolfo.

Many restaurants now scatter the lake and offer classic Italian fare with a spectacular view. This is a good place to enjoy locally produced wine.
